When writing any type of technical communication, one of the first steps is to identify your audience and determine the information they will need. The writer must clearly define who they are writing for and what purpose the document will serve. In this discussion, you will analyze real-world examples of technical writing to recognize the importance of knowing your audience.

In your initial post, describe an example of a technical document available to you, its target audience, and its purpose. Provide a link or image of the example if possible for your instructor and classmates to view. Then, address to the following:

  • Identify what you think the writer of your example knew or assumed about the audience.
  • Explain how the example you selected is uniquely appropriate to that audience.
  • Describe the features that make this example uniquely appropriate for its purpose.
  • Suggest modifications of this document that would make it more useful to its audience, or explain why it is perfect for its purpose as is.
