Have you ever heard the saying if you fail to plan, you plan to fail? The needs assessment we learned about last week is the basis for a companys employee development plan.  Developing personnel cannot happen without a plan. A plan needs to have some objective or goal that needs to be met. If part of the personnel development includes training, then its important that the objectives of the training are listed. Training costs money and before a company will invest in its employees, management will want to know the objectives of the training that is, why do they need training and what is the objective.

  • Prepare to discuss the following questions.
    • Some companies are forced to balance periods of high customer demand with low customer demand. This variance requires the company to manage headcount through the periods of slow business. What are some sound business plans and objectives that companies dealing with this inconsistency can implement to ensure their staff is productive and wasted costs are minimized?
    • Overstaffing is a direct result of poor personnel planning and understanding of job roles. Explain how proper employee training can minimize overstaffing.
    • For some companies, it makes sense to conduct in house training, in other circumstances, outsourcing is the best option. What should a company take into consideration when deciding the best way to provide training?
