Your topic should not describe what you hope to find; it should simple be an area of interest. Example: Meeting the needs of ESOL students in the general education setting. The question or questions will help guide your research. Examples: What specific needs do ESOL students have in the general education setting? How can general education teachers meet the needs of ESOL students, specifically in literacy?My research question(s):1.2.3.III. Methodologya. Describe your initial plan for collecting data related to your research questions. Refer to your textbook for more information about methodology. At this point, your ideas are only preliminary and may change drastically before your research takes place. There are two basic methods- qualitative and quantitative.
2IV. Sourcesa. When it is time to complete your entire project/paper, you will need a minimum of 12 sources for the literature review section. These sources could be journal articles or book chapters. For this proposal, you will need to ensure that there is enough written about your topic. This will eliminate potential problems during your actual study. For this section of the proposal, you should list 6 possible journal articles or book chapters that may be helpful to you during the literature review phase of the project. Be sure to include a full citation in APA format, 7th ed. You should include both articles you reviewed for the course in this section. This means you only must locate 4 additional articles. Possible Sources1.2.3.4.5.6.V. Empirical Studya. For this proposal, locate one empirical study related to your topic. An empirical study is based on the collection and analysis of data based on direct observation or experiences in the field. Empirical Study Details 1. Citation for study (APA format, 7th edition)2. Purpose of the study3. Subjects/participants4. Methods, strategies used with subjects/participants5. Measures, instruments, or ways of collecting data6. Results7. Conclusion VI. Preliminary Literature Review a. For this proposal, you will write a preliminary literature review using the two articles you reviewed during this course and the one empirical study you reviewed (listed above). You will add to this review during EDU 5004 Educational Assessment & Action Research. This initial review should be between four and eight pages in length and should include an introduction, body, and conclusion.
3The introduction should introduce your topic and outline the structure of the review (chronological, thematic, etc.). The conclusion should summarize the findings from the article and include any additional questions or points to consider as you add to this review later in the program. The review should be written in APA format, 7th ed. Please refer to the videos posted on Canvas for additional information related to writing literature reviews. The literature review is not a separate document. It is included in the proposal.
