you will analyze John Updikes short story A & P and, using plot, discuss how the story is or is not a coming-of-age story. A coming-of-age story usually suggests a loss of innocence and/or an epiphany that leads to maturity. It may mean an acceptance of responsibility and becoming more like an adult. For this paper, you must point out crucial parts of the plot (possibly using Freytags Pyramid) that support or do not support this coming-of-age label.
Remember that your essay must contain brief relevant background information for the author in the beginning paragraph and quotes taken from the storys content with accompanying in-text citations in the essays body paragraphs.
Assignment: For this essay, you will write up to two pages (no less than one) that includes an introduction, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion citing examples that support your thesis. The essay will include a minimum of two sources (including the Literature textbook) shown in the form of in-text cited quotes and/or paraphrases with a Works Cited page (not counted in the one to two pages).
NOTE: Essays are never conversational and should not contain pronouns such as I, you, or we. The subject matter should be foremost in the writers mind and should guide where he or she is going with his or her thesis in every part of the essay.
