Submit your artifacts and rationales for the nine Learning Outcomes for review and feedback from your instructor. You will find and/or create artifacts that demonstrate your mastery of the outcomes. Each artifact will be accompanied by a rationale that explains how the artifact demonstrates your mastery and provides context for the artifact. Each rationale should be approximately 1 page in length. You may find or create new artifacts to demonstrate your mastery; these could include relevant images, YouTube videos, news articles, or other types of artifacts. However, it is imperative that you cite where the artifact came from as well as fully explain how this artifact relates to and demonstrates your mastery of the Learning Outcome. There are a variety of formats you can select from to present your Learning Outcomes Portfolio. You are encouraged to review the list of suggested tools and experiment with several before making a final decision. Keep in mind that your instructor will not provide technical support for any of the tools, but links to tutorials have been provided in the above link as well. Learning Outcome 1: Recognizing and explaining the role of each transportation mode plays in the politics, economies, and demographics of the national and international community.

Rationale: There are various modes of transportation in logistics, including road, rail, marine, and air transportation, which also plays a significant role in economies, demographics, and the politics of the national and international community. Road transport controls a country’s economy, and the amount of traffic on the road demonstrates the progress of a country in terms of GDP and living standards (Engström, 2016). It is a crucial link between production and consumption, both nationally and internationally. For the case of rail transport, it has been termed as the economy, meaning it is one of the factors underpinning the robust economy, determining the living standards of the nationals (Philpott, 2019). Besides, the development of the modes of transportation is an indication of a favorable political environment. Similarly, marine and air transport form integration to the global economy and offers crucial connectivity on a regional, national, and international scale.

Rationale: Mechanization in each mode has played a leading role in the development of transportation. In all the modes, the development of new engine technologies has been crucial in giving each mode of transportation a given adaptation of evolution (Rodrigue, 2020). For example, in rail transportation, there has been the development of diesel locomotives and electric motor, replacing steam engines, which has significantly improved in terms of efficiency to the current engines used in current high-speed trains. In air transportation, the development has been on the air propulsion and wide-body, resulting in increased freight and passengers’ capacity. For maritime transportation, the development has been associated with fuel propulsion and metallic hulls facilitating the increased ship capacity and specialization. Lastly is the road transport that has recently seen the introduction of self-driving vehicles.
