According to ETS (2009) “the proper assessment of our nation’s more than 5 million English language learners (ELLs) merits attention at all levels in our education systems. It is critically important that the array of content assessments taken by ELLs be fair and valid” (para. 1). To better understand this, students will write a short paper outlining the particular challenges that surround the assessment of children whose first language is not English. This paper should be 3-4 pages in length, 12-point font, double-spaced, and in APA format with a list of at least 3 references.
