Your task is to complete two of the three as written papers. Turn them in as one assignment with one paper following the next with a blank page between them. Each paper should be approximately 800 words.
Here are the two prompts I chose:
1. Zitkala-Sa, Kazuko Itoi (Monica Sone), Tara Westover, and Michelle Obama all struggle to operate in several social/cultural contexts. How do they end up making sense of these situations by the end of their autobiographical accounts? Are there more similarities or differences? You might make use of our understanding of the resistance/accommodation/assimilation continuum to craft your answer.
3. Like all autobiographers, Zitkala-Sa, Kazuko Itoi (Monica Sone), Tara Westover, and Michelle Obama told their stories from a certain perspective. Are they reliable narrators? In other words, can we accept their depictions as “the truth”? Are some more or less reliable than others?
