The instructions for this blog are very simple. All I require for you, the writer, is to create a blog based on the two historical articles/documents that I will attach titled “In Our Time- background for A Kind of Memo ” and “History is a weapon. In writing the blog you need to make reference to the readings from the book “The American Pageant: Volume II”, chapter 36, and the small synopsis on the 1960s which I will post beneath this.

1960s
Peace, Love, and Happiness.  Sex, Drugs, and Rock n Roll.
Are these opposite sides of the same coin or are they two inherently incongruent ideologies?
Do either of them really explain the 1960s?
Note: Do not cite any other sources. Just the readings from the historical documents and the textbook.
This is the format of the blog sent to me by the lecturer:
Time Period: 1960s

-In the first paragraph of your Blog, write out a brief summary of what both documents are and the topic it discusses.  That is, summarizeand citeyour source.

-In paragraph 2, explain how your source fits into/relates to the time period.  Use (and cite) the textbook and mini-lectures for context.  How does your source add to what we already know about the time period?  What is your authors thesis?

-In paragraph 3, discuss what you think about the source and the topic.  Why is the source/topic important?  What does it tell us about the time period and why does this matter?

A well-written blog that gets right to the point should be no more than 1 page.

Below is the Unit overview.

In this unit, we will be studying the 25-year time period after World War II.  As we begin our study of the Cold War, the most enduring phenomenon of the 20th Century, we will be paying particular attention to the foreign policy shifts of the 1950s and 1960s–a time period usually noted as a transformative period in American social history because of the Civil Rights Movement and its consequent spin-offs (Gay Liberation, American Indian Movement, Second Wave Feminism, etc.).  Many historians and casual observers alike see this time period as the moment when Americans tried to make America live up to its egalitarian goals.  You should be able to identify the celebratory triumphs as well as the setbacks for equality from 1945 through the 1960s.
