Purpose:
This interdisciplinary capstone core course focuses on how to create,identify, and manage competitive
advantage within an organization. Each student will be required toprepare a professional report that
provides a detailed and thorough strategic analysis of a corporationchosen by the student. The term
professional means that it is well written, well sourced andanalytical.
Description
The report will be graded on its effective use of strategicmanagement concepts and shall constitute thirty percent (30%) of a studentsfinal grade. The purpose of the assignment is to provide the student the opportunityto demonstrate an understanding of the process of strategy development andanalysis, rather than complete a detailed task list for the assignment. Thestrategic plan analysis should be approximately 25 pages.
The strategic plan analysis structure is outlined below andshall include the following:
I. Background (30 pts.)
a. Industry history/description.
b. Your Company briefdescription, history, position in industry.
c. Leading Companies in theIndustry (2) brief description, position in industry
II. External Environment Analysis (45 pts.)
a. General Environment Forces:Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal, and
Environmental (O/T)
b. Industry Environment PorterFive Forces Model
c. Competitor Environment FutureObjectives, Current Strategies, Assumptions,
Capabilities.
d. Global Segment- Discuss theenvironmental trends affecting their chose of
international strategies
III. Internal Environment Analysis (45 pts.)
a. The Organization: CoreCompetencies, Distinctive Competencies, Value Chain
b. Financials* Key businessfinancial strength statistics:
Net Profit Margin: Net Profit/Revenue (IS)
Current Ratio: Current Assets/ Current Liabilities (BS)
Debt Equity: Total Liabilities/ Shareholders Equity (BS)
Total Asset Turnover: Total Revenue/Total Assets (IS~BS)
*For this you will need to calculate the ratios for the latest two yearsthat you are
able to get documentation for. You will need to calculate the ratios andthen
comment on their significance, i.e., trends. Please include your balancesheet and
income statement at the end of your document in the appendices section
c. Capabilities: Strengths andWeaknesses
IV. Strategic Analysis (45 pts.)
a. Identify and assess the currentcompetitive generic strategy of the organization and
the conditions that created that strategy (internal and/or external).
b. Identify any changes in strategythat the organization has experienced (including any
changes in the scope of operations, vertical or horizontal expansion,and approach to
the global economy).
V. Final Report Analysis (90 pts.)
a. Key Result Areas (select anddescribe 8 key items from the SWOT to be
strategically addressed)
b. Corporate Level StrategicRecommendations (3)- use at least one strategy given below
c. Decision Criteria (evidence thatsupports the strategies, e.g., core competencies,
internal/external analyses)

e. What did you learn? In one ortwo paragraphs, tell me what you learned and/or found
interesting about your company and this project.

VIII. Presentation:(100 pts.)
a. Five-minute narrated presentation on the recommendations to be created usingPowerPoint, and not exceeding fiveminutes in narration.
b. Please make sure to keep thispresentation as close to five-minutes as you can.

Paper should be around 25 pages in length
Ensure professional presentation with proper spelling,grammar, etc.
Use of APA formatting
Must have proper in-text citations and reference page
Include page numbers
Include a cover page or paper header
Grading Criteria
Your presentation and final report will be graded by rubric.
