Please write a 3-page essay discussing the following vignette with questions listed below:

Jose is a 53 year-old Mexican-American man who seeks your help as a vocational counselor.  He has a history of stable employment in the construction industry for 30 years.  Three years ago, he injured his back while working, and he has been out of work on medical disability leave for the past three years.  His back injury has not resolved, and he has developed some depressive symptoms related to his injury.  He describes feeling down, sometimes "numb", and like "a loser who can’t do anything."  He is seeking your help with the encouragement of his wife, who suggests he find another job to "keep his mind busy" and "get him out of the house."  Jose seems willing and interested to find a new job, but he states he "has no idea where to start" since construction is the only work he has done in his adult life.

Your essay should address the following questions, but please feel free to go beyond these questions as you see necessary.  

1.  Individual assessment.  Using the Capuzzi and Stauffer (2019) text, discuss some of the assessment options you would consider for Jose.  Include specific tests and examples.

2.  Cultural factors.  Using the text, other references, and your own personal experience, discuss some of the cultural factors involved in this case. How would you ensure sensitivity to cultural considerations while helping Jose go beyond his current comfort zone?

3.  Literature review.  Using three peer-reviewed articles (they can be used in the previous section as well), discuss your findings related to individual assessment in vocational counseling and/or cultural considerations in vocational counseling.

Your essay should be 3 pages of text, plus a title page and reference page.  Your paper should be in proper APA format (if you are unsure of APA formatting, please reference the materials provided in the Week 0 learning activity).  Your essay should include at least 3 peer-reviewed references/citations.  You are welcome to use the (Capuzzi & Stauffer, 2019) text and any published journal articles.  Websites are not considered valid references in academic work.  A great place to find peer-reviewed journal articles is the Social Sciences Full Text database provided through the CBU library website: https://calbaptist.edu/library/databases/
