PLEASE NOTE: University policy prohibits students from reusing essays written in another class (or a previous section of this class). Please be sure that your assignment is a new essay exclusively for this section of this class.
Write a 700-1,050-word argument in which you examine a social issue (of your choice) and argue its causes. The basis of the argument are these conjectured causes; do not confuse a conjectured cause with a fact (for example, eating more calories than your body can burn in a day causes weight gain–that’s a fact; but a person might argue that gaining weight is caused by nervousness or boredom–not a fact). You may identify no less than 2 and no more than 4 causes.
Your essay must include the following:
- A well-constructed introduction that provides a context for the issue and your argument, ending with your thesis
- Body paragraphs that demonstrate the causal connection
- At least 1 narrative illustration in support of one of your claims
- A well-constructed conclusion that goes beyond summary to expression the significance of understanding this issue in our culture.
Research Requirements: Use 3 sources from the UOPX Library databases. Do not use sources outside of these databases. Sources must meet the following qualifications:
- Must be articles from the UOPX library databases–no Internet sources.
- Peer-reviewed (click on scholarly or peer-reviewed button in the search form)
- Signed (have a specific author)
- Must be at least 2 pages in length
