I would first like to touch on how America colonized a lot of the southern part of Mexico as well how many of Mexicans were forced out of there land unfairly and wrong during the Mexican War in which America would be willing to go any length to ensure victory and stay powerful. As well how the Americans won over the Texan territory and as well California and New Mexico in which the Mexicans had rightfully occupied way before Americas Arrival in their quest to take their land. I would also like to note that most the Mexicans who has this land way before America wanted to retain it and how they were fighting to keep what they believed was theirs even though the Americans were the ones to enter in their land without any acceptance. Another key thing I wanted to touch on was the treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo and how this was what ultimately put an end to the war that the Americans and Mexicans had been fighting for over 2 years in conquest for land.
I chose this because I feel like it’s a piece of history unique to Hispanics and how they rose to higher greats and the struggle they had to overcome. I really think that this specific topic can demonstrate how America colonized the Hispanic and how they stole not only land but as well agriculture. As well I really feel like this is a great learning experience and a chance to follow along and learn some key things about Mexican culture and people. I really enjoyed talking about this topic during one of our more recent discussions and I feel like this can be an opportunity to understand their identity as a Mexican American and that of Hispanic descent.
