During the second half of this course (Great Depression near past), you were introduced to the idea of the American Dream and the American ideals of liberty, freedom, and democracy. However, these ideals often differed from reality. As the U.S. touted these ideals, a number of groups and individuals felt discontent, disillusioned, or disappointed, because the American Dream was not necessarily accessible to them. As a result of their discontent, disillusionment, or disappointment, these groups and individuals sought to make changes for themselves and those around them.
Choose three (different) groups or individuals and:
- Identify their reason for discontentment/disillusionment/disappointment.
- Elaborate (provide specific examples) on the ways in which they sought to make (and sometimes achieve) changes in society, the economy, politics, or the law.
