• Watch Class Dismissed: How TV Frames the Working Class (2005) on Kanopy 
    • Then, write a 250-word reflection on what this documentary is saying about how we portray working-class characters in our American television shows. Highlight a few of the strategies used to help audiences differentiate between working-class characters and their wealthier counterparts.
  • Watch the film A Man Called Ove through Kanopy
  • Then write a 750-word close reading of the film in which you complete the following:
      • find 3-4 scenes from the movie to focus on
          • the MLA format for movie in-text citations: (firstwordofmovietitle beginningtimestampofscene – endingtimestampofscene)
            • example: (A Man 15:25-23:55)

      • use those scenes to analyze how Ove’s attitude changes as the movie progresses, and provide your interpretation of why you think these changes happen.
  • Next, watch Parasite (2019) on Kanopy
    • Finally, write a 250-word reflection that on how you see the difference between the working class characters and their upper class counterparts. How do you see their lives being shaped and/or limited by their social class status?
    • Building on your previous reflections on our movie, Parasite (2019), find at least 3 scholarly journal articles that discuss social class inequalities here in the United States.
    • Then write an essay that answers the following question: 
      Compare how the disparities seen between the working class and upper class in Parasite are different or similar to those that exist here in American society. 
    • Remember the following
        • use MLA format and citations (I highly recommend using the MLA template provided in our modules)
        • 12pt. Times New Roman font, double-spaced and 1-inch margins
        • essay should be at least 7-10 pages long
        • for your Works Cited page, which should come after the 7-10 pages of your essay, Google “Purdue OWL MLA movie” to find how to cite a movie.
