The goal of this assignment is for you to create a formalized plan for your research paper that provides a preliminary overview of its content. A research proposal can be thought of as a draft introduction for your paper and it is an opportunity to inform your instructor about your forthcoming paper and get feedback on it. It will be evaluated based on the inclusion, clear articulation, and viability of the core components.
There are three components to this assignment worth 10 marks each:
· The Proposal: In a short paragraph (maximum of one page), you must provide a description of what your intended research paper will be about. You must include some context (background information which may be historical in nature, any relevant statistics which show the significance of your topic, any definitions of key terms, etc.) and a statement of topic containing both a prestige abstraction and a research site (“This essay examines …”). You must also include at least one of the following: a tradition of inquiry, a knowledge deficit, and a rough thesis statement.
· Annotated Works Cited: Using these 3-4 sources, you will create a list of sources in MLA 8th edition format. Be sure to list these sources alphabetically. After each item listed, you will include an annotation (a brief description) of that item, which includes the following:
1. Asummary of the content of the source. Make sure that you are not only indicating what the source is about (what topic it deals with), but also what the source actually says or claims about its topic. Be specific and use your own words. Using the strategies, we have discussed in class, make use of attributive phrasing and in-text citations for any quotations you include.
2. Evaluation of the source. Provide a statement that makes an assessment of the source, considering both its drawback and its good qualities. Be sure to justify your assessment (provide a reason for your opinion), considering qualities, such as accuracy, currency, objectivity, etc.
3. In addition to the entries you have already created, you must include a sentence or two about why each source is useful/relevant to your particular topic
