For many college students that lack their family’s support the road to success consists of many obstacles as a result of that lack of support. For instance, the impact that a student experiences is not just social but psychological as well. This can be seen especially in relation to a student’s emotional well being. At the same time, the lack of family financial support is an additional obstacle that is coupled with the lack of emotional support that multiplies the negative effects. In addition, it is important to consider that many students who attend college live at home and are expected to meet their family obligations which can also become an added stressor. Adding on to this stress involves the difficulty in creating social networks in college. However, nothing is more serious than the negative impact that the lack of support has on a student when it comes to their ability to experience academic success. Ultimately, it is important to consider that lacking family support is multidimensional and that it has a negative impact on many aspects of a college student’s academic life.

For many college students the impact due to the lack of support from their family can be so impactful that it shapes their sense of belonging at the institution that he/she is attending. For instance, Roksa and Kinsley (2017) discovered in their research that if a college student experienced strong emotional family support that it impacted their well being which resulted in greater student engagement. What this indicates is that when a parent or parents make a conscious effort to support their children, who are attending college, that it shapes their emotional state in a way that it impacts their feelings of belongingness and results in an increased attempt to create social networks. However, it is also important to consider that even if a student is receiving family support, that many decide to live at home and commute and as a result are also impacted by the family obligations that come along with that arrangement.

EX of conclusion:
When taking into consideration all of the obstacles that college students face and are created due to a lack of family support it is important to acknowledge that the assistance and help they need should focus on many things. It is also important to consider that it is not enough to simply accept college students into a higher education institution without providing them with various types of assistance in the form of guidance, counseling, financial support and most of all the opportunity to teach them how to interact with others in a way so that they can create their own support network. Another important type of intervention that is essential is in providing students with the type of guidance that helps them deal with the personal side of their experiences both psychologically and emotionally. When a student is accepted by an institution of higher education they are not just accepting who that student is in terms of their education, they are accepting someone who has their own personal struggles and if institutions want to help these students, the focus of that help should not be only on academic aspects of their lives but on the personal as well. This type of assistance can aide and even serve as a cushion against not receiving support from their families.
