For the final document, you must use and cite two course readings (and one must be Bevan) and two course videos.

  • Note that you will be required to use and cite Bevan at least once for each exercise, but you should use them much more.

  • Describe your findings for the four exercises.
  • For each exercise you will then complete step 2 for each by applying what you have learned during this class on the basic principles of effective communication, ideas of the self, or culture to your exercise results.

Week one findings: Sometimes during text messaging exchanges. Things can be taken the wrong way or not detailed enough. Having a conversation personally is better for myself.

Week two:  This week, I violated a non-verbal cultural norm by standing non facing my grandmother  while attempting to have a conversation with her. Normally this particular experiment seems unfavorable and not effective. In many ways it was not effective and my grandmother took it as disrespect to have my back turned on her. While addressing her and trying to conversate. I was brought up to use eye contact when speaking to someone directly. It not only shows your respectful but it also shows that your confident have nothing to hide.  This particular aspect when communicating was instilled in myself and my siblings as long as I can I remember. All in all the experiment was unsuccessful for both parties.

Week four: Eye contact and deep breathing is helpful when making a speech or speaking with someone. It helps show your confidence and assurance.  Empathetic listening

Week five findings: Social support is very important. With my health, I require many different supports to help me get through. But social support is the one that helps me strive daily. Emotional & physiological support is the one that is important in my daily life. Having that encouragement to help push me is needed daily.
