As atool of reconstruction, building interest conversions acknowledges thedifficulty of engaging others in the work of leadership for social changeperiod it advocates recognizing the negative effects of oppression (not solelyon minoritized individuals but on those from the majority as well), meetingpeople where they are, and building coalitions. Using this tool to reconstructa theory might involve challenging utopian presumptions that people will engagein socially just forms of leadership because it is simply the right thing todo in favor of more realistic approaches.
