Your opening paragraph should introduce the issue at hand, the authors name in full, and the title of her article. You then should identify the authors intended audience Included in your intro should also be a brief summary of her (or his) argument with your critique thesis clearly formulated at the end. Use the first person like you used in your previous critique and remember that a successful critique needs to evaluate the use of emotional appeal, evidence and assumptions, stated and implied.

The main body section (three paragraphs) will then discuss these three areas in order of your choice. Your concluding paragraph will pass the final verdict on the article, summarizing your main points, and providing closure to your discussion.

Please remember that since this article is value driven and addressed to a broad audience, not experts or academics, the use of statistical data is not a primary argumentative tool. The author relies on other kinds of evidence which you need to identify it and discuss. Note that evidence is not a countable noun and takes singular verbs (evidence is, not evidences are). Also, in your discussion of emotional appeal (same as tone), be sure to precisely describe its desired effect on the audience (you). In other words, how does the author want to make us feel about the issue? (examplesangry, sad, apprehensive, sympathetic etc.).
