CW2 Task Some academics and practitioners believe that culture is created by employees and should remain with employees, and that attempts at changing it are futile because ‘culture is the people’ in other words ‘culture determines leadership’. Others on the other hand, believe that the leaders of the business are the initiators and the guardians of the culture, and that it is their remit to ensure that the culture is fit for purpose – “leadership determines culture”. These are the two most common perspectives on how culture develops in the workplace. Imagine you are employed as an external consultant to an organisation of your choice, produce a Consultancy Report that: 1. Critically assesses whether leadership determines culture, or whether culture determines leadership in your chosen organisation. (700 words). 2. Critically evaluate the implications of this (in 1 above) for applying a HRM strategy to the way the workforce is managed (1300 words). You might consider some of the following areas in your evaluation: – Modes and styles of leadership – Power, authority and accountability – Politics and conflict – Teams and groups dynamics in organisations – attitudes to work: motivation, job satisfaction – development, reward, performance management and effective management of employee relations 3. Produce an action plan based on your report, including any quantitative and qualitative information, showing how your chosen organisation should respond to any issues identified. (500 words). In this assessment, you demonstrate your understanding and ability to apply strategic Human Resource management theories, organisational behaviour and leadership in an organisation of your choice. Your case can be the organisation you are working at or any other business you are familiar with or wish to explore. Please note that citing sources of concepts/theories/models is essential.
