Cancer is like an uncontrolled mitosis. In Mitosis the cell replicates themselves and creates two
identical copies from the original so is a controlled process. Cancer is an uncontrolled growth
and division of cells.
Cytoxan, (Generic Name: Cyclophosphamide), is a drug use to treat: Hodgkin’s and non-
Hodgkin’s lymphoma, Burkitt’s lymphoma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), chronic
myelocytic leukemia (CML), acute myeloid leukemia (AML), acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL),
t-cell lymphoma (mycosis fungoides), multiple myeloma, neuroblastoma, retinoblastoma, breast
cancer, ovarian cancer, and conditioning regimens for bone marrow transplantation. This drug
is designed to work during the rest cycle of the cell and before the growing phases and
mitosis. The Drug is classified as an alkylating agent which are most active in the resting phase
of the cell. The drug work by damaging the RNA or DNA that tells the cell how to copy itself
in division. Most common side effects are: Low blood counts, hair loss, nausea and vomiting,
poor appetite and discoloration of the skin and nails.
