Declare Assignment: Developing Your Positioning Pitch (3% Due Week 5)

Let’s keep it short and impactful. Aim for 3 sentences because your pitch needs to be a concise set of declarative statements.  You will use your pitch in interviews, during networking opportunities, on cover letters, in emails and your resume, and as the summary of your online profile in Linkedin.

Employers are looking for passion, leadership and initiative.  Keep this in mind as you put the pieces together for your pitch.

The focus of your pitch is the keywords and phrases that you have discovered during your personal assessment phase in Discover.

What keywords and phrases did you discover?

Positioning focuses on clearly understanding and declaring a unique offering.  This could include hard and soft skills.

What makes you different from other students or graduates?

To validate your positioning pitch you should provide a ‘splash of proof’.  All you need is a splash because space is limited and there is lots of room for proof in the rest of your profile. Proof in your pitch could take the form of a grade point average, awards won, or accomplishments that are concrete and measurable (ex. employee of the month, highest sales for six out of eight months, etc.).

What’s your ‘splash of proof’?

Lastly, you should also include a reference to your target whether it is an industry, a position or role, a type of organization, a personal value or a geographic location. You must tell people what you are looking for.  Your target is also important in keyword search when employers are searching for candidates.

What’s your target?
