Demonstrate an understanding of intelligence (IQ) and multiple intelligences (MIs) by comparing and contrasting the differing variables associated with each.

IQ is intelligence quotient and it is measurement of one’s intelligence which is then expressed in a number.  The assessment is taken and then compared to people in your age-group. Most of the population scores between 70-130 and the average score is 100. IQ is very specific and it does not have many different types.

The model of multiple intelligence (MIs) was developed by psychologist Howard Garner. There are 9 types of intelligence which are naturalist, musical, logical-mathematical, existential, interpersonal, bodily-kinesthetic and linguistic. Multiple intelligence is broader than IQ and determines the whole personality and specializations.

Thinking critically about these foundational differences, comment on how Gardner’s ideas about learning preferences might change the way we assess a person’s strengths and weaknesses.

Gardner’s ideas about learning preferences might be able to change the way we asses a person’s strengths and weaknesses by how it expands the assessment and learners potential. For example, when I took the test it showed me way that I can improve my intelligences. Rosser-Majors, (2017) states that   “This means that individual learning varies across a platform of human potentialities in which individual differences stemming from bio psychological and cultural factors affect their skill sets and even abilities” (pg. 7.2).

Do you agree with the assessment? How can what you have learned about yourself help support your learning performance? List at least two behaviors you could change or traits you could develop in your own behaviors, and explain how they support your assessment results.

In the assessment my strengths were Logic/math, Spatial and Social. All of which had the same exact score. In logic/math I agree that I do like puzzles. Often we have a puzzle on the dining room table and work on it as when we have time. I do enjoy mathematical concepts and critical thinking. I enjoy learning birthdays and find a way with numbers to remember them. For example my sister was born on 9/27/88.  We have a 9 for September, her birth date is 27, but if you add her birthday they equal 9. So in my mind I remember her birthday because I think of 9988. I like the suggestions made to improve my logic/math intelligence. For example, sort, categorize and characterize word lists. For spatial, I do remember things visually. I love creating my own maps, diagrams and graphs. I plan on incorporating reading colorful newspapers like USA Today to improve. Lastly is social, which is very much me. I do like to develop ideas and learn from others. I enjoy talking and have great social skills. I take away as much as I can from group discussions. I plan on incorporating writing notes to another instead of talking. The five other scores for my intelligence were also spot on. I reviewed the practice section to learn how I can engage in all of my intelligence.

. We are looking at two methods in which a person mental ability can be tested. Both IQ and MI share the same understanding that these tests are in place to see just how the human mind can process and understand information as they are thought and the tested on the information. The differences they face is that IQ is a test that focus on the individual, it believes that a person can be process the information then based off the score they get on a test then that determine there IQ level. This system is based on a person ability to adopt to the material the learn, then they must be able to test out on this information to determine the ability to learn which is there IQ. MI is believed that a person level of intelligence defers form person to person based off the following “genetics, mood, personality, and socioeconomics.”(  Rosser-Majors, 2017) It takes all the variables and looks at how a specific person has an understanding and feels that their intelligence are based off how the process the information

Base of the text I have gained the understanding that Gardner sees the learning process is broke down in to subsection. Whit this Gardner helps you to see that a person could have a strong understand or on topic but there IQ in another topic could be low. For me this means that he was say thing people might not be smart in all aspect of life but there is always some are that a person will excel in.

The assessment in which I participated in did a very good job of braking down the type of person I am. I gave me feedback to thing I didn’t think really add up in life, but the feedback was true can completely me. I think that two things I could work on to make much better and add to my enter person is Self and Musical. The reason I feel that I can improve on self is that yes, I understand who I am, I feel that I don’t try and develop the weakness about myself such as reading and writing. I feel that if I take the time to better these areas of self then my ability to articulate thing would improve making it easier for me to get my point across at times. My musical is were I like it to be but base of the feedback that I was given I can incorporate my love for musical when I study this might improve my ability to understand thing and retain the information.

How could an increased awareness of information processing, your learning style, and your attention and self-regulation strategies potentially affect your performance in your academic journey?

I feel that now I am more in tune with my learning style. I will be able to easily identify where my weaknesses are and have a better understanding of what I need to do to fix them. Having increased awareness of information processing, my learning style, my attention and self-regulation strategies will allow me to do so. Rosser-Majors (2017) suggests that “Self-regulated learning is key to processing and retaining information” (pg.8.3).  By using self-regulation I can be more organized in following my study plan and class schedule.

Your career development/professional life?

Having awareness in my career development/professional life would be very similar to that of my academic journey. For example, I will be able to acquire information more efficiently. The use of metacognition has also assisted me in my military career by allowing me to focus on what is important.

Based on your career goals, how can a better understanding of how we learn to be applied? e.g. in your organization? your community? your volunteer efforts?)

In my organization, I deal with personnel that deploys constantly. Understanding how we learn can assist me in giving them better service. For example, I can do a briefing as well as give handouts for those that choose to have them. Since I plan on continuing my educational learning by becoming a social worker I need to learn strategies that will assist my community.

Did you learn anything important about yourself through the process of learning about learning?

The most important thing that I learned in this course is that I need to know how I learn in order to learn. I wish I had taken this course earlier in my degree, but I feel it will help me in my future classes.

What did you learn about your peers in the class through the process of learning about learning?

My peers taught me how to use strategies in different ways. Although I did not respond to every post I  did read all of them and learned a lot. Their posts, responses as well as questions opened my eyes. I appreciate that we all have different things going on in life, but they were so engaged in helping one another.

How will you apply what you have learned about yourself in your future learning activities (whether you are the learner or the instructor in these activities)?

I plan on applying metacognition and practicing until it becomes second nature. As a future Social Worker, metacognition will assist me in keeping my emotions under control. I plan on working in oncology and I want to ensure my feelings are not in the way of giving my patient the best care.

Do you agree or disagree that by applying the elements of metacognition into your studies, you will improve your ability to learn more effectively?

I do believe that applying elements of metacognition into my studies will help my ability to learn effectively.

In order for me to increased awareness of information processing, I must first understand my weakness in the world of learning. Once I have a clear understanding of the areas in which I must improve I can then look at the different theory of learning to which will give me the best information as I began to work on my short coming  of my r academic journey.

As for my career and professional development, I can now us the theory like behaviorism, cognitivism, constructivism and humanism  to find ways to reach soldiers with in my unit. I can take these theories and apply them to training this will allow for me to ensure that each Soldier is learning at the high possible level. This will allow for me to take our Soldiers readiness to the next level. This will also allow me to train and prepare the best fit leader for each position they can fill.

The most important thing I can say this class gave me was that I am a multi learner, it has shown me that my strongest learning theory it behaviorism. The reason for this is that i learn best by doing thing over and over until it just second hand. The other is humanism I like  learn form others and the environment around me.
