POST 1:

Describe a current issue in nursing education and a current issue in nursing practice. Discuss how these issues will impact you or your colleagues.

Example:

Nursing education and roles are developing globally, and opportunities for nurses are expanding worldwide due to the need for expert nursing care at an advanced level of practice (Kleinpell et al., 2014).  On the other hand, nursing education is facing various challenges worldwide in the current situation, as well as it is exhibiting multiple facets of reformation. Nursing education is an ever-changing field, and upon the transition from conventional classroom to web-based clinical instruction, educators have become required to guide, motivate and coach students to acquire a more advanced technological experience within their field of study. However, the deficits in nursing education, including problems related to students, educators, and clinical environments. In the clinical setting, doctors and nurses show more attention to medical students than other students of health sciences, including nursing students, and this leads to the negative attitude of other students (Farzi et al., 2018). This can have negative effects on creative learning opportunities and also can reduce learning motivation. Hence, planning to change the degrading and negative atmosphere of the clinical environment can be effective in creating learning opportunities, providing safe care, and improving interprofessional collaboration. In addition, providing the ground for increased relationship between the faculty and clinical environment, employing capable clinical educator who are interested in their profession, employing clinical nurses to participate in clinical education, and providing better educational facilities such as simulations can improve learning experience of the participants in order to maintain a high quality of nursing graduates, quality of care as well as safeguard patient safety and satisfaction (Farzi et al., 2018).

Nurses are crucial to healthcare environments and take pride in the care they provide. But nurses also face challenges in today’s complex healthcare environment. Short staffing in hospital settings is a top concern for nurses because it means they don’t have enough time to provide the care they believe is necessary for patients and families. Nurses may not feel like they are doing enough, which causes dissatisfaction and burnout. Moreover, nurses face a number of workplace hazards such as exposure to bloodborne pathogens, injuries, hand washing-related dermatitis, and cold and flu germs. Workplace violence is also a pressing issue for nurses. Hitting, kicking, and beating are the most common incidents reported. Thus, these issues negatively impact all nurses.

POST 2:

Analyze the impact and role of technology on the following: nursing education, nursing practice, and the quality of patient care. Provide examples for each.

Example:

In the 21st century, technology is evolving more rapidly than ever and has become an integral part of health care (Lee et al., 2018). Nurses have participated in the design, purchase, and implementation of information technology in health care. The knowledge required for the field of nursing informatics has expanded, and it is now a recognized specialty in the profession (Mohmmed, 2017). Nursing students have access to online education, web-based simulations, live, reference guides, electronic textbooks, and apps on mobile devices. Technology also has the power to transform teaching by ushering in a new model of connected teaching. This model links teachers to students and to professional content, resources, and systems to help them improve their own instruction and personalize learning. The biggest change brought by new technology is the availability of online degree programs. These programs offer flexibility and convenience that might allow more people to pursue a degree. A working nurse can advance their degree in nursing without having to move and find a new job.

There are many emerging technologies that change the practice of nursing (Huston, 2013). Healthcare settings now utilize a wide variety of things such as electronic records, medication prescribing tools, telehealth, mobile laboratories, and online appointment scheduling. Technology-led services are continually changing the way nurses operate in health care facilities. One significant factor has been the transition to electronic records. Integrated care records that draw accurate patient information help them ensure that the needs of patients are understood. They also provide safeguard by accurately tracking progression throughout various care pathways, and allow test results, procedures, diagnoses, and treatments to be appropriately recorded in order to enhance the quality of patient care. A well-designed patient record system can facilitate an easier, faster flow of information that is needed for efficient care provision.

Moreover, the development of new technologies help to reduce medical error and to use information technology as a key step in transforming and changing the healthcare environment to achieve better and safer care (Alotaibi & Federico, 2017). Health information technology includes various technologies that span from simple charting to more advanced decision support and integration with medical technology. Health information technology provides numerous opportunities for improving and transforming healthcare, which includes; reducing human errors, improving clinical outcomes, facilitating care coordination, improving practice efficiencies, and tracking data over time. Patients now have access to best diagnostic tools, some new and cutting-edge treatments, and a myriad of minimally-invasive techniques resulting in less pain as well as quicker healing. Remote consultations with specialists, treatments, or the availability of intuitive mobile apps have led to improved patient care and a superior healthcare experience overall. Additionally, the availability of treatment technologies leading to better outcomes has enhanced the quality of life of the patients as well.
