1.You are tasked with conducting an inheritance study on a species of daisy. While they are the same species, some daisies are yellow (YY) while the others are white (yy). Using concepts derived from Mendelian Inheritance, come up with a hypothesis and prediction on what the offspring will “look” like in the F1and F2 generations if there is complete dominance for color. Justify your predictions (you may use a Punnett square for evidence as long as you explain the results).
2.Two species of frog recently underwent sympatric speciation. The males of each species had a different coloring through which the females could identify and choose a partner from her own species. After some time, pollution made the lake so cloudy that it was hard for females to distinguish colors. First, describe the type of reproductive isolation that occurred before the water became cloudy and then hypothesize what may happen after.
3.Describe and discuss the differences of respiration between an amphibian and a human. What are the major differences in their systems, how does this give them an advantage in their environment? How does the amphibian and human, differ than an insect?
4.Photosynthesis and Chemosynthesis are unique, but also similar. Discuss each of their unique properties and similarities. Are cyanobacteria more plant or animal? Discuss. What makes these organisms special?
5.There are two purposes for animal cell reproduction, what are they? During reproduction there are various checkpoints, describe each of the checkpoints and what is happening at each point? Why are these checkpoints important? Do all organism have the same cell replication process, if not, name a different type of cell replication and the organism that does it.
