In the newspaper article "From pecan pralines to ‘dots’ as currency: how the prison economy works" you read about prisoners in a high-security prison, known as "Angola". The author goes to great lengths to describe the various types of economic activity that take place inside the prison.
In class this week, you were introduced to the "Five Foundations of Economics". Choose one or two of these Foundations, and in a couple of paragraphs, describe how it helps to explain an aspect you found interesting about the prison economy.
This is a pretty open-ended question, and there are many possible right answers. The ideas we discussed in class are helpful to understand how people make decisions, when faced with scarcity and when interacting with each other. The people (inmates and guards) who live and work in Angola are humans, just like us, and we should be able to apply the same principles to explain their behavior as we use for any other group of people.
Despite this being an "Essay Question", I am not expecting a full-fledged essay as your answer. A couple of paragraphs should be enough.
