1. Analyze the concept of evil and how it relates to ethics. What, in your opinion, is evil? Discuss Arendt’s concept of the “Banality of Evil” and provide examples.
2. Discuss the concept of Didactic Stories and how they relate to ethics. Analyze the contemporary story genres of War, Westerns and Science Fiction as they relate to morality. Is one genre more effective at relating morality than the others?
3. Examine the Apollo vs. Dionysus debate in ancient Greece (you can find information on this question in the Week 2 power-point lecture on Religion, Global ethics and Didactic themes). Include in your analysis a discussion regarding whether state-sponsored censorship is a good idea.
4. Discuss the major ideas behind Ethical Relativism. What are some objections to this theory? Do you agree with the concept of Ethical Relativism?
5. Discuss the major ideas of Psychological Egoism and Ethical Egoism. How are they alike and how are they different? Analyze the objections to Ethical Egoism.
