(A) The behavior of civil engineering structures is influenced by dynamic loads acting on it. You are required to prepare 5-page report on dynamic behavior of structures subject to a particular type of dynamic load (wind, earthquake, impact, blast, flood, hurricane, induced vibration). The report should be based on study of some available materials on the internet and should include the following:
The type of structure (building , bridge, etc.)
Type of dynamic loading
How does the loading affect the structure?
Show damaging effects of loading through discussions of two case histories (very brief, one-two paragraphs). Some examples of structures and loading include Tacoma Narrows Bridge (bridge + wind loading), failure of bridges and buildings during earthquakes, human induced vibrations on Millennium Bridge London, wind loading on tall building towers such as Citicorp building in New York.
Please be objective in your discussion and provide the list of references (websites, etc.) at the end. Presentation has significant weightage in grading. You can use pictures as needed, but not excessive.
