Question Description

Topic Statement: This is a brief, one-sentence statement identifying your topic. You’ll use writing templates in Week 1 of the webtext to select a topic and draft your topic statement, and you’ll have a chance to revise it in Week 3.
Your topic is the specific subject area of your paper, but this statement should not take a position; it will simply identify the focus of your paper.
Position Statement, Audience Description, and Goal Statement: Using writing templates in Week 2 of the webtext, you’ll draft your position, a description of your audience, and the goal of your argument. You’ll have a chance to revise these elements in Week 3.
Your position statement should be one sentence stating your position on your topic.
Your audience description should be one paragraph long, and it should explain who the members of your audience are, what they believe about your topic, and what values you share with them. You will learn more about how to select your audience later in the next chapter.
Your goal statement should be one clear and concise sentence, and it will identify what you want to accomplish in this paper.
Supporting Points and Research Organizer: Writing templates in Weeks 2 and 3 of the webtext will guide you through the process of finding supporting points and identifying sources to help you persuade your audience. The webtext will show you how to cite these sources using Strayer Writing Standards (SWS), which will come in handy as you complete the other tasks.
You’ll list three supporting points.
You’ll also identify at least six sources. Then you’ll choose your top three sources and write a paragraph for each that summarizes the source and describes how you will use it in your paper: Will you use it to provide factual information? To support your point? To provide a counter argument? You may decide on a combination of these uses.
