You will utilize your Character Profile and classroom roleplays to inform this final assignment.
Write a 5-page essay in which you assess and reflect on your Character Profile and your social work practice. Please include the following:
Part 1: Building off your initial Character Profile (assignment 1), complete your Character’s
Functional Assessment and document the assessment using the following section headings ( 2-3
pages):
● Client Demographics and Location
○ Client name, pronouns, age
○ Where is the client seeking services and what is the role of the provider?
● Client’s Presenting Concern (why are they seeking services? )
○ Focus on the here and now (within the last week)
● Mental Health Symptomatology ( what is causing distress? )
● Physical Health Symptomatology ( what is happening in their body?)
● Cultural Context and Formulation ( what cultural implications are present and how to do if they impact the concerns? )
○ Provide an overview of the client’s intersectional identities and the ways in which their
identities have impacted or currently impact access to services, treatment efficacy
and relationships with mental health and physical health providers
● Clinical Formulation ( what did you observe, what are treatment needs, and what are next
steps? )
○ Provide a summary of the client’s presentation, presenting problem, your initial
diagnostic impressions related to symptoms, and your treatment recommendations
Part 2: Use your Character’s Functional Assessment to reflect on their treatment needs ( 1-2
pages:
● What are your character’s challenges, strengths, protective factors, and risk factors? (ie:
symptomatic, systemic, cultural, etc)
● During course roleplays, what theoretical approach or specific practice intervention(s)
seemed most effective with your character? Why do you think this was the case?
Reviewing interventions taught in the course as well as those you may have researched independently, identify 2-3 brief interventions you might use to help improve your character’s wellbeing.
○ If your character presented with safety concerns, please include a detailed safety plan as one of the necessary interventions.
Part 3: Reflect on how the creation of your Character Profile, your character’s Functional Assessment and participation in roleplays have been influenced by your own identities ( 1-2 pages):
● What have you learned about yourself, including your biases and growth edges?
● How do you plan to continue addressing these biases and growth edges in future practice?
