The purpose of this class has been to educate you about the communication behaviors you engage in on a regular basis, as well as to teach you how to modify and/or improve those skills to better equip yourselves to have happier and healthier relationships. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is for you to explain the most important interpersonal skill(s) that you learned this semester.
YOUR PAPER SHOULD ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:
- Which specific communication skill(s) have you learned or improved during this semester? Make sure you define the skill(s) and explain your level of improvement. If you feel that you have not learned or improved any skill, please explain why you think that is the case.
- What do you think is your best skill as a communicator and why? Make sure you define the skill and explain why it is your best with examples of personal experiences.
- Choose a communication theory we have covered throughout the semester. Give a brief explanation of the theory. How do relate to this theory and why? Explain why you relate to this theory with examples from your own personal experiences. Additionally, why do you think it is important for other people outside of our class to know about this theory? (Examples: Social Penetration Theory, Social Identity Theory, Attribution Theory, Social Exchange Theory, etc.)
- Finally, what did you think of the class overall? What did you like or dislike? Do you have any suggestions that you think may improve the class in the future? Provide examples to justify your answer.
YOUR PAPER WILL BE GRADED ON THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
- Addresses all four question categories thoroughly and thoughtfully. Each paragraph is at least 7-10 sentences
- Uses personal examples that illustrate the skills you are discussing, as well as demonstrates your understanding of said skills.
- Typed, double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12-point font, black ink, 1-inch margins. Save your paper as a PDF to ensure that your formatting will transfer over during submission on Canvas.
- Paper needs to be long enough to be complete (there’s no way it can be done properly in one page!) but should NOT exceed four pages (preferably 3 full pages, double-spaced)
- Proper essay format: an introduction, at least one paragraph per question category, and a conclusion. You should have a minimum of 6 well-developed paragraphs. This includes attention to coherency, fluidity, and mechanical/grammatical structure.
