Assessment weighting: Total of 60% made up of 3 reports worth 20% each

 

Assessment Task Instructions:

Core Task: 

You are required to write a report using the data set provided. You must use the ordinary least squares method to estimate the future performance in this business sector and advise your manager about the accuracy or inaccuracy of this method.

 

Structure:

Section 1: Introduction – 100 words maximum, introducing the OLS method to be considered and outlining the purpose of the report;

 

Section 2: Accuracy of OLS method- max 200 words – this section should describe and explain what they are and how they can be used to make predictions;

 

Section 3: Inaccuracy of OLS method- max 200 words – this section should describe and explain the limitations of the OLS method;

 

Section 4 Present your calculations using OLS in Excel and interpret the results- max 200 words

 

Section 5: Conclusion – max 100 word

 

Section 6: Reference list (not included in the word count)

 

 

 

Theory and/or task resources required for the assessment:

You must conduct secondary research for this assessment finding relevant sources independently, in addition to the resources listed in your module handbook.

You must use Excel to carry out the calculations and to create any graphs

Your report must demonstrate your understanding of the theory of finance studied in Theme 5 of the module. 

Assessment reference style:

You should refer to a minimum of 5 relevant sources for your report.  Minimum 2 sources should be printed texts.  Please refer to your module handbook for a list of useful resources.

 

You must include a Harvard style reference list at the end of your report.  A full bibliography is NOT required.

Expected word count:

You are expected to write between 700 to 800 words, following the specific structure outlined above.

Assessment Mark:

The assessment will be marked using the following four marking criteria:

Knowledge and Application (30 marks)

·       The OLS method is clearly described

·       Excel is used to clearly present OLS data for the case study

Evaluation, Analysis and Synthesis (30 marks)

·       The limitations of the OLD method are clearly discussed

·       The OLS data is analysed successfully and relevant conclusions are drawn

Research and References (20 marks)

·       Sources are appropriate and well-integrated

·       References and citations are well managed

Presentation (20 marks)

·       Language is used to clearly expressed a variety of ideas

·       The structure matches the task requirements

·       The report is presented effectively
