Global argument essay

 

For your final paper, write an Argumentative Essay of 5-7 pages about a global issue you see playing out in the world right now. 

 

Please note here that global issues are often American issues, too. But there are some issues that are distinctly American–like gun control, police brutality and taxes–that the world as a whole is not necessarily struggling with in the same way (all countries struggle with police brutality and taxes, but their cultures laws might be different enough that theyre having different debates). It is important that you talk about the issue in the essay in terms of the whole world, not just America. Therefore, your support cannot be focused only on what Americans think or do. 

 

After you choose your issue, state a controversial thesis about what you think should be done about it. Then, state at least three reasons you think your thesis is a good one. This will be how your essay is organized, around your three or more reasons. 

 

You also must include an opposition paragraph in your argument that brings in one opposing idea and either concedes to it or refutes it. 

 

You must bring in at least four outside sources to support your argument. This support will mostly be from outside sources–newspapers, journals and other trusted online sources–because these issues are current, so there wouldnt be many older sources that would cover it. Keep your sources from within the last ten years. You must restrict your outside sources to either
