For this essay, I would like you to think about a social justice topic or environmental issue that you care about or in which you are interested. Some examples are: pollution, climate change, racial or gender discrimination, poverty, womens rights, immigrants rights, domestic abuse, better access to health care, and so forth. Of course, your topic does not have to be any of these examples since you can chose one that is close to you.
In the introduction, state what the problem is and why it is important both socially and/or ecologically and to you, personally. What is your connection to it? Why do you care?
Write a thesis statement that sums up three effects that you think the issue has on society in general. Also, mention how you would solve or address it? In other words, what would you propose to correct the injustice(s) or help the environment? Be creative about your solutions. In your body paragraphs, you can outline what the issues/effects are and then provide a solution. Then, in your conclusion, you must summarize your main points and tie them together.
Each paragraph of the essay should further illustrate and give examples to highlight and support your thesis. In grading the essays, I will be looking for a focused thesis. I will be looking for clear writing; connected writing; engagement of the self with the narrative and explanation; good grammar, punctuation, spelling, sentence variety, and coherent paragraphingall the things that make for good essays.
