Policy change cannot occur without meaningful discussion and respectful understanding of competing perspectives. This week, each student is assigned a position of advocating that health care is either a right or a privilege. You will have the opportunity to create a scholarly argument advocating for your position as well as respond to competing positions from others. Regardless of your true feelings on the subject, you should make every attempt to be objective, thorough, and convincing on your topic.

To prepare for this Assignment:

  • Review the resources from Weeks 1–5.

By Day 3 of Week 6

Students will be assigned to one side of the debate as follows:

  • Last name A–K: Health care as a right
  • Last name L–Z: Health care as a privilege

Post your initial response by Day 3.

Note Initial Post: A 3-paragraph (at least 350 words) response. Be sure to use evidence from the readings and include in-text citations. Utilize essay-level writing practice and skills, including the use of transitional material and organizational frames. Avoid quotes; paraphrase to incorporate evidence into your own writing.
