Overview

As stated in the Key Points for this module, the Holmes and Rahe Stress Scale is one way to measure the extent of stress in a person’s life. For this assignment, you are to complete the Holmes and Rahe Stress Scale and reflect on your score.

Action Items

  1. Complete your assigned reading.
  2. Go to the Holmes and Rahe Stress Scale (Links to an external site.).
  3. Identify the items that are true in your life.
  4. Click on the "Calculate My Total" button at the end of the scale.
  5. You may also want to look at the ANA COVID-19 Resource Center (Links to an external site.) for resources for nurses during times of stress.
  6. By the due date indicated, write a 50-100 word response to each of the following:
    1. Describe the stressors in your life during the past year.
    2. One of the items listed on the scale is "Begin or end school." How has returning to school caused stress in your life? Would you consider it to be a positive or negative stress?
    3. Reflect on the year preceding the one you just evaluated. Do you think that the events from that year impacted your health during this year? Why? How? Why not?
    4. What coping strategies have you used to help you deal with stress?
