The proposal “is it safe for transgender athletes to participate in their now identifed gender.” That is the focus of this

paper. Below is a rubic to follow when writing this proposal.

Purpose

To help you both make sense of your proposal and move forward with actually drafting, composing the proposal. This method is useful, as well, at helping you think critically about how to summarize your preliminary research so far and get direction in terms of what you need to do going forward.

Specifics/Assignment

Using the following paragraph template and Canvas documents, such as Sample Proposal: Outline and Paragraph Template , begin to outline what each paragraph of your proposal will do and what info each paragraph will contain. I understand that some of you do not work this way and may just simply start drafting your proposal. However, it can help to plan out at least the basics and necessities each proposal must have. Also: these are the absolute essentials of each paragraph in overview for. You will, as the many samples and examples we’ve reviewed show, need much more than just a few details in each paragraph. In some ways, you’re summing up 2 forms of prelim research: 1, the overall topic (para 1) and 2 your research about your specific focus within the larger subject (para 2).

Paragraph 1:

a.) intro/overview of topic

b.) supporting details in your own words –> should show different aspects of topic, overall

c.) should explain reasons why topic is important, as a whole

Paragraph 2:

a.) transition into your specific focus within larger subject –> e.g. police brutality is larger topic, but you want to focus on potential solutions to problem

b.) summary of different perspectives, reasons this tighter focus is crucial

c.) another other info from preliminary research you deem to be useful to sum up, such as how topic is debatable

d.) end with your actual research question –> should be focused, challenging, grounded and be an actual question

Paragraph 3:

a.) shows what different kind of academic (scholarly) research is necessary to answer your research question

b.) examines any other essential research you think will help answer research question (e.g. websites, newspapers. etc.)

c.) explains any field research that could help your future research (e.g. questionnaires to UTC students, interview with an expert in this field (topic),

d.) any other research methods or types integral to answering your research question

*Note: c. in paragraph 3 is not necessary for every topic. However, I do want to see that you are thinking about what kind of dedicated research it will take to address such debatable and important topics.

-A good example of when this type research might help: a student a few years ago was doing a proposal on why eating disorders are so difficult to treat among youth, especially young women. She proposed sending 200 or so anonymous questionnaires to UTC students about their histories with eating problems and interviewing ER doctors concerning admissions involving eating disorders.*
