1- At the conclusion of his text, Quashie writes, “If I could, I would have called this book Aliveness. If I could, I would have dropped the qualifier . . . If I could, this book would not need to exist.”

Consider the matter of aliveness and the ethical orientation in a world that is not ethically oriented. Looking back on any poem you have studied this semester, share your ideas about how it offers an invitation to aliveness. As you can, share your feelings about why wishes the book did not need to exist.
2- Answer the following question in your process journal: How do these words reflect (or fail to reflect) Quashies aim to  imagine a black world?  To ask the question differently, how do these words mirror (or fail to mirror) Quashies efforts to surpass the everywhere and everway of black death, of blackness that is understood only through such a vocabulary?  Feel free to discuss this with your colleagues.
