As we embark on a journey of discovering in this course looking at what Servant Leadership is all about, there will be many concepts, theories and ideas presented in this class. One of the first concepts we will consider is in the book Lead Like Jesus (Blanchard, et al, 2016) in chapter #4 where we learn that servant leadership is all about influence. Blanchard et al (2016) write about “Spheres of Influence” (pp. 17 – 33) and states that in order to lead like Jesus a leader must first accept the fact that only Jesus can lead you” (p.24). I have found this to be true in my own experience as I have wrestled with the idea of being a servant to others first. Jesus is truly the best example of what it means to be a servant leader. I generally feel more comfortable in smaller groups than in large groups and tend to look to Jesus more for help and guidance when I am leading larger groups. I remind myself when I feel awkward or insecure in large groups of my identity in being a follower of Jesus and how I do not need anyone else’s approval. I also try to remember the truth that I am created for a purpose and have a purpose given to me by God. This helps me face fears of inadequacy by remembering my uniqueness as a created being made by God for His glory. The place where I am most comfortable as a leader is one on one leadership where I can speak directly with someone and get to know them as a person. As you read about all the different “Spheres of Influence” (Blanchard, et al, 2016, pp.24-33) answer the question I have written below as your reply to this post.
