Please read the following instructions carefully before writing the essay.
• You must select recent experiences of two unrelated groups that you have participated in. (Recent = the past 3 months). Ideally, this would involve one group where you have no formal authority and another group where you do have formal authority. Please note the groups you choose MUST have a minimum of five members.
• The essay must not exceed 3000 words with the following structure (please refer to pages 6 and 19 in LEADERSHIP B DETAILS for more details):
Team 1
• Description (400 words)
• Exploration (400 words)
• Sensemaking (500 words)
Team 2
• Description (400 words)
• Exploration (400 words)
• Sensemaking (500 words)
• Conclusion (400 words)
• Example of acceptable description, exploration and sensemaking (all types of sensemaking (boundaries, authority, roles, and task, explained in page 14 of leadership B details) shall be explored as shown in the example) are shown in pages 8, 13, 15, 16, 17 in LEADERSHIP B DETAILS Document). Please follow strictly these roles
• With your chosen groups or teams, you should describe, explore and analyse the situations or experiences, including:
o A description of the group in its context
o A description of a single event or a sequence of events
o An exploration of the different thoughts and feelings that might have been experienced by you and the other team members
o An analysis of the conscious and unconscious dynamics in each group. This should include some of the following: the conscious and unconscious group boundaries, the roles and authority that were taken up; the coalitions, conflicts, competition, openness, the conscious and unconscious group task or purpose; the patterns of convergence and divergence. You should offer several alternative explanations of what might be going on for you and your colleagues.
