The assignment isdesigned to enhance and develop critical thinking and analytical skills in the context of digital multimedia and also to begin to build a repertoire of examples of best practices for writing and curatingdigital texts.INSTRUCTIONSAs a group, conduct research online into options for digital writing and digital texts: were not simplytalking about social media (although thats an option); there are also technologies, media,spaces/forums, platforms, and of course published texts.Your focus should try to be on text-focused items (and not simply visuals-based items like videos)(great examples include blogs, interactive websites, mainstream or alternative news sites, magazines, zines, artist websites, forums). Although you may already be aware of examples youfind inspiring, during your research process, as a group, try to seek out sources that are new toyou. The first step of the assignment is to narrow down four (4) media platform examples fromyour research and simply list them and then move to the second step. The second step is to takethe four media platforms and provide the best practices for each: what should someone do/not dowith each platform. It is highly recommended to include screenshots of best practices for eachmedia platform.Try to see if you can find media platforms outside of TikTok and YouTube, which are video-basedplatforms.You are welcome to break up this assignment amongst your group members in any way that yousee works for your group. The document you submit should adhere more or less to the following form:1. Identify four (4) digital media platforms you discovered and explored in your research.2. For each of the four media platform, provide the following information below: (i) identifies and offers a general description of the digital media platform (ii) discusses its strengths, and (iii.) states why those features are important for writing in adigital context (iv) identifies what you see as the weaknesses of the digital text, and (v) suggests how thetext might be changed with a view to improvement. (vi) if someone was to ask you about the specific media platform, what are a few things 2youd recommend that individual do/not do with that specific media platform (vii) back up your discussion with screenshots, if possibleFor Inspiration and GuidanceIn your critical reflection you might consider: How you feel about the platforms feel (is it entertaining, fun, new?) What do you like and dislike about the design and aesthetic elements? (use of space, colour, font, lines, is the text fast, slow, or static?) Is the platform engaging? (in what ways, and if not then why and how not) Accessibility (how accessible is the language and then the forum/platform morebroadly?) Originality (how does this compare or differ from other platforms in this genre? What isdifferent and familiar?) Quality of information (Is there factual accuracy? Is there depth?) Discursive ratio (What is the balance between written/alphabetic text, image, andsound? What kind of relationship does the written text have to the other forms oftext?) Who is the target audience?Note: The above list is not comprehensive, and you are free to pursue modes of inquiry overandabove the ones being suggested. The PointThe principal objective of this assignment is for you to engage critically with a digital text in a waythat accounts for its various features, how it appeals to/affects you, and what kind of environmentand system of meaning it appears in.At the same time, the exercise is designed to prompt you to engage with a range of digital contentand platforms, to have you go through a research process of your own design, to narrow down andmake a selection, and to gradually come to an awareness of why you made the selection you did(criteria and appeal). It will also allow you the opportunity to work collaboratively with your peers (a big part of a realworld role), all while building a repertoire of examples of best practices for writing and curatingdigital platforms.3Submission Guidelines Your assignment should be no longer than 8 pages maximum.o Include a title page with relevant details, including your group member names on it(if you require an extra page, you do not need to include the title page in your pagecount) Word documents only (no PDFs) Double-spaced writing in 12-pt. font of your choice When using screenshots/images of the digital texts you come across in your research andusing images in the compilation and curation of your Word document for this submission, dont forget to cite properly.o If your document needs to be longer than 8 pages to accommodate yourscreenshots, know that is ok.
