Read chapter 8: Decision Making, Creativity, and Innovation
“Every business, large or small, needs to innovate to compete. Fortunately, with the right training and willingness to learn, everyone has the ability to be creative on an individual level. “Business as usual” is no longer an option (Neck et al., 2020, p. 223). The text outlines six types of innovation: product, process, people, exploitative, exploratory, and organization structure.

- Step one: Define the problem (make sure you address the root cause and not symptoms)
- Step two: Identify and weigh decision criteria
- Step three: Generate Alternatives (2)- include research to validate your options.
- Step four: Rate Alternatives
- Step five: Choose, implement, and evaluate the decision
In addition to the decision-making steps, review the section on biases and errors (pages 221 & 222).
Assignment Directions: You are the Boss! Determine a problem within your current or previous organization. Address each step in the decision-making process and conduct additional research to determine the best solution. After completing this process, you are tasked with pitching your plan to the leadership team. For this assignment, you won’t be writing a paper (insert cheers!). Instead, you are tasked with creating and submitting your PowerPoint for your “pitch” to the leadership team. You don’t need to officially “present”/record the presentation, but keep in mind the slides need enough content to convey the message and address each step in the decision-making process. Include a reference slide with a minimum of 3 peer-reviewed sources from Welder Library or Google Scholar cited in your PP.
