For this second case study, you are responsible to read the chapter "Surprised at Sinai: Law as Gift," by Old Testament scholar Carmen Imes for a perspective on how Israel viewed the significance of God’s Torah (i.e. “law” or “guidance”). In addition, please read Deuteronomy 6:4–9 for a specific passage that communicates the relationship between Torah and worship in ancient Israel. Everyone should watch the first video (entitled "Shema/Listen"), and then choose one of the other five videos to watch. The reading and the viewing will form the basis of this assignment as well as our class discussion.
