Submit your proposed PICO/PICOT/PICOS statement to faculty for feedback and approval. Once approved by faculty, it will be the topic for your research paper.
This needs to be a topic that is amenable to NURSING INTERVENTIONS for which you will be able to find sufficient recent research studies to write your paper. This should not be something that is already well known, such as the importance of hand hygiene to prevent infection. This should not be strictly medical research (best drugs or surgeries), but it can be about nursing interventions for clients experiencing a particular medical condition or procedure (such as best way to provide education, comfort, prevent complications via nursing interventions).
Include a paragraph of at least 250 words about the significance of your question with reference(s). This paragraph will serve as a draft of the introductory paragraph of your literature review paper, where you identify your topic.
Significance may include number of people with the condition, disability or death rates, economic costs, impact on people (physically, psychologically, spiritually, socially, etc.).
Example: if your PICOT questions is about education to prevent exacerbation of COPD, the significance would include a definition of COPD, how many people (in your population, e.g. United States) are diagnosed with COPD, how many experience exacerbations, and death rate from exacerbations of COPD.
