Read an assigned article and describe the model and strategies that were used for reducing barriers and implementing evidence-based practices.
MY ARTICLE:
Chang, H. C., Russell, C., & Jones, M. K. (2010). Implementing evidence-based practice in Taiwanese nursing homes: Attitudes and perceived barriers and facilitators. Journal of Gerontological Nursing, 36(1), 41-50.
IN TEXT: (Chang et al., 2010)

Directions:
You will read an assigned article and describe the model and strategies that were used for reducing barriers and implementing evidence-based practices. Your instructor will assign each student to a group and an article that describes how a change, based on evidence-based practice, was implemented.
Read the assigned article and write a short summary (offline in word processing software), including the following topics below.

Put your name above your article summary with a short caption (so I know who to give points to)
In the first sentence, cite the source (Authors, Year) and the purpose of it. (do NOT repeat the full title and journal name since that is in the reference list) (5 points)
Type of study and level of evidence on Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt’s evidence scale. You can expect that several of these will be Level VI descriptive studies or Level VII expert opinion, unless they specifically stated another type of research. (5 points)
What model or steps were used to promote implementation of EBP change? If no model was clearly described in the article, then select one from the textbook Chapter 13 that resembled their process or could be used. (20 points)
What strategies were used or recommended to be used to enhance implementation or motivate change? (20 points)
What were some barriers to EBP implementation? (20 points)
Full reference in APA format (5 points)
SAMPLE ARTICLE SUMMARY
Model for Change (summary by Susie Quik)
In the article by Plastow (2006), the authors outlined a model for change that was used to assist Occupational Therapists (OT) in implementing evidence-based practice interventions for psychiatric patients. Although this was written for OT and it was the lowest level of evidence (VII Expert Opinion), it listed similar strategies that have been used to promote changes in the nursing. The model they used was Rosswurm & Larrabee’s Model for EBP Practice Change (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2015, pp. 287-288). This model has six steps: assess need for change, locate the best evidence, critically analyze the evidence, design practice change, implement and evaluate, integrate and maintain change in practice.
The major strategies they used were as follows:
Identify all stakeholders
Assess factors that may impede
Plan appropriate interventions
Assess attitudes and readiness to change
Educate those reluctant to change
Conduct audits and give feedback
Evaluate and plan new interventions
The barriers they discussed were:
Resistance to change
Risk to patients and clients
Ease of implementing
Adaptability to individual clinical practice
Finding evidence to support the interventions
