        Mission Statement

Hand Up Across Rochester, is a non-profit sport outreach organization whose mission it is to afford young people and their families, regardless of financial need, in the City of Rochester, New York, the experience of being exposed to the gospel of Jesus Christ through sports and recreation activities.  Through a holistic approach, participants will receive support for emotional and physical well-being, educational and training opportunities as well as learning life skills that will enable them to have successful futures.

                                                                                  Vision Statement

Engaging individuals through sport activities to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ so that all participants realize happiness, health and success in their lives.

                                                                            Organizational Structure

Initially I plan on making my non-profit’s organizational structure small.  There will be a Board of Directors of three people, with key people in ministry director, marketing/sponsorship director/fundraising director, activities director and human relations manager (Appendix A).  As the outreach organization grows, the structure will be flexible enough to accommodation any growth.  If funding is available, directorship positions are paid positions, with volunteers making up many of the day-to-day work positions.  As far as the ministry director is concerned, this area will be supported by as many volunteers as possible who are devoted to spreading the gospel would be eager to work within the organization.  Soliciting sponsors, marketing and fundraising in the beginning would be addressed in one area, although if successful, I could see marketing, i.e., social media, etc. standing on their own.  I may even reach out for pro bono legal assistance with relationships I have made and kept throughout the years in the area.  It is important that all legal requirements are met before we begin to operate the outreach organization.

                                                                                             Staffing

In creating this Plan I will have to research (possibly through the assistant of legal people) what requirements or regulations exist in New York State when establishing a non-profit organization.  For example, organizations must comply with 12 NYCRR 143, which state that a nonprofit institution agrees to pay the statutory minimum wage instead of having to comply with a Minimum Wage Order.  The management style of the ministry director would look more like coaching than supervising as volunteers tend to be passionate about helping.  Even though there will be many volunteers that help to get this organization off  the ground, there will be concrete job descriptions for all areas and positions so the everyday operations can run smoothly.  Directors in charge of the areas or departments will be salaried positions, but what will be determined is how many paid staff versus volunteer staff will make up the workforce.

                                                                                              Funding

There will be a huge emphasis or priority on soliciting funds through donors, private donations, corporate contributions, government grants and contracts, bequests, etc.  A fundraising committee will work in collaboration with the marketing individuals of the organization.  In order to be able to maintain and grow financial stability and longevity for the nonprofit, there will be a variation of sources for funding.  This will be a never ending endeavor of the fundraising arm of the organization.  Because this is a non-profit organization and sports is being used to engage and draw in the participants from the impoverished neighborhoods of Rochester, my hope is that many for-profit organizations would support our mission and vision.  As a moral or ethical duty many corporations usually come through.   Acts 20:35, “In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.”  There is a large portion of families that continue to be closely associated with their neighborhood churches, so efforts will be made to establish and maintain close relationships so we are able to work in collaboration to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ through our programs.  When fundraising is an option through this avenue, we will take advantage of the opportunities.
