For this assignment, you will need to take a position on an issue within your topic area and argue for it. That is, you will need to provide evidence to convince your readers of the validity of your position. Your evidence should come from what you have learned from your previous writing assignments (that is, your personal essay, the article you used for your critique essay) and from any other sources (for example, additional reading, your interview or survey) you choose to use.
Your argumentative essay should run about 5-7 (double space) pages and include:
- an introduction in which you orient your readers to your topic, state your position, and preview the rest of your paper;
- Note: You need to introduce your topic and provide background information in this essay even though you may have done so in your previous Personal Essay and Critique Essay; dont assume your readers have read your previous essays.
- a body in which you provide support for your position; consider and respond to (usually disprove or refute) different view(s);
- a conclusion in which you briefly summarize your argument and suggest what you think needs to be done to improve the current situation; and
- a bibliography (titled References or Works Cited) which lists the sources (at least five) you have used in your paper.
