Whyare some countries more corrupt than others?
In recent years, many developing countries have mademajor investments in order to counteract corruption. The methods have includedeverything from stricter legislation, information campaigns, increased transparency,higher salaries for civil servants and increased transparency in the stateapparatus. Since donors often have great power in designing this type of reformpackage, we know that most developing countries have implemented similarreforms. Surprisingly, it seems however, these similar reforms have led todifferent outcomes in different countries and today there is great variation interms of how corruption has developed over time since the initiatives began.Then In some countries, a radical reduction in corruption has been seen inother countries no reduction at all and in some cases an increase in corruptionhas even been seen. Information about the variation in corruption over time andbased on different ways of measuring goes to get hold of. However, there is alack of knowledge about why some countries have seen a decline in corruption whileother countries see unchanged or even increased corruption despite similarreforms.
You are interested in understanding why some countrieshave been more successful in that fight corruption than others despite similarreforms. Suggest an appropriate comparative case study design to tackle theresearch problem by answering the questions above.
