Re: Topic 5 DQ 1

Hello Class,

Washington state has many local organizations that offer information and a safe space for families and people with special needs to receive resources and get assistance with issues they may experience. I believe organizations that offer information and provide support for families going through a due process is extremely critical as legal and special education terms can sound like jargon. This process can also become overwhelming and intimidating for parents and families as they may not be familiar with the proper steps to take to ensure their case is heard and given a fair trial.

One of the many organizations that offer resources for the due process and support families is Disability Rights Washington. This organization provides families with inclusive communities, public policies and research, learning videos, legal resources, and litigations that have taken place in the surrounding areas. one of the most important things I found that support parents in a due process are Disability Rights Washington has attorneys and law student interns who provide technical assistance to those with disabilities or their advocates, at no cost.

thank you,

Danessa

Re: Topic 5 DQ 1

Hello everyone,

Special Needs Advocacy for Parents (SNAP) of Georgia is an organization that provides many services for children with emotional, physical, behavioral, and learning disabilities (Special Needs Advocacy for Parents of Georgia, n.d.). They assist parents by providing tutoring services, mentoring, and assessments if needed. I think the best part for parents is that there is no cost to them, and they can provide help in so many ways. When families are ready to take their case to due process, they have a Special Education Advocate that will determine the strength of the situation and make recommendations on how to proceed with a special education attorney (Special Needs Advocacy for Parents of Georgia, n.d.). They will help parents to solve the disagreement before taking the case to due process. The Special Education Advocate can help from the beginning of the process to the end or do a specific task. Whichever you choose, they are there to support the families.
