Instructions:

The final paper must be a 12 point type, double spaced, 1 inch margins all around, minimal 10 page paper, and be free of fallacies and grammatical and spelling error, and must be submitted to our course Canvas web site by the announced due date (see Class Schedule). The final paper must be developed from the argumentative essays; it shall include revisions based on further research (at least five), responses to peer reviews/comments, and instructors
feedback/comments. The structure of the final paper is strongly recommended as follows.
I. Introduction. Clearly introduce your proposal/thesis and describe the main argument
that warrants your position.
II. Main Arguments: Construct a cogent argument that is deductively valid and another that is inductively strong to support your reason 3 introduced in the Introduction section of your essay. Clearly explain their cogency, including logical form, relevance, and factuality.
III. Research Results. Clearly describe research results that warrant your main argument and those against your main arguments.
IV. Pros and cons analysis
V. Conclusion
VI. Reflection on revisions

[A few tips]:
1. While you may use the best arguments from essay 1 and/or essay 2, you should keep in mind do not just copy and paste those onto your final paper– because the odds are you would copy and paste the same errors. Read my comments on your both essays!
2. Proofread your work!
3. Structure: Make sure you have all of the elements listed below. Use section titles.
(1) Introduction (about one page): Introduce your thesis statement, supporting arguments, and possible objections.
(2) Cogent argument:
(a) Logical Form: Don’t forget to explain logical forms, including what the Capital letters stand for.
(b) Relevance means differently for deductive arguments and inductive argument. For inductive argument from generalization, you need to discuss sample population for its relevance; inductive argument from analogy, similarity; inductive argument from causal claim, constant conjunction and common relevant factor (via Mill’s Methods).
(c) Use sub-arguments for Factual warranting(/factuality) in deductive arguments; use research results to support factuality in inductive arguments.
(3) Research Results: Think of this section as a research report. You should include a brief introduction of those research results. Clearly describe research results that warrant your main argument(s) and those against your main argument(s). Use your own words to describe and explain those results and cite from them as support. Avoid direct quotes! Make sure to include at least three scholarly work!
(4) Pros-and-Cons Analysis: About one page. Use one paragraph to introduce both sides of the argument. After fairly and objectively describe both sides in detail (one paragraph for each side), you should give a final rebuttal by considering the following:
(a) Generalizability. Is the position that I am defending general enough for me to use to defend for other ethical issues?
(b) Ethical Theory. Can my position/argument be back up or supported by any of the ethical theories, including Utilitarianism, Kantianism and/or Sartre’s Humanism?
(5) Conclusion. Use one paragraph.
(6) Reflection on revision: Reflect upon how you learn to write an argumentative essay with cogent arguments, especially how you revised the previous essays or other written assignments in order to present a clear logical structure of your thinking.
